Despite his instant fame after debuting his platinum-certified hit titled ‘Betrayed’, Lil Xan has arguably been considered one of the most controversial artists of the year. While some people were side-eyeing the 22-year-old’s chosen stage name, long-time hip-hop fans were turned off by his lack of respect and put Xan under fire for calling rap legend Tupac ‘boring’ during an interview with Revolt TV back in March. Even with so much negative press, Lil Xan managed to stay somewhat relevant in the music industry throughout the year, as tabloids often exposed his unhealthy relationship with Noah Cyrus, the “good-girl” younger sister to Miley. It seemed like whatever the rapper did turn into a negative headline, and after the announcement of his idol, Mac Miller’s passing, the guy simply couldn’t catch a break.
Like many other artists, Xan spoke out about Miller, but during a recent tribute video, he shocked listeners when he expressed that the death of his hero, on top of the constant social media shade, has left him feeling uninspired and ready to move on from music altogether.
In what might be the most painful and permanent way to honor a friend, Lil Xan added new ink to his canvas and got the phrase “Memento Mori” tatted right above his eyebrow. Translated into English as “Remember you will die,” Xan revealed the piece in an Instagram post captioned “Miss you Mac, Y’all can start hating me now.”
Don’t let the face tattoos fool you, but from the looks of it, Lil Xan just might not have been built for this cut-throat music industry.
